FAQs and Misconceptions
Introduction
Once you have grasped the basics of the game, it’s time to get started playing Genshin. First, focus on your Archon Quests (Prologue) in order to progress through the story and get used to the mechanics in-game. When it comes to building characters in early game, just give them any weapon you have and artifacts (for most, anything with ATK% as the main stat will be sufficient) that you get from chests. You don’t need to worry about your character stats since you really can’t farm for artifacts until AR 45. Early Game: AR 1 - 30 Mid Game: AR 30-45 Late Game: AR 45+ In early game, you can get away without focusing much on your characters, but as soon as you reach mid game you should begin to work on your characters’ level, weapon level, and talents. It would be difficult to catch up with even the story progression with underlevelled characters in mid game, or even worse at late game.
For Building Characters
It's important to know that as of 2.7, the new In-Game Recc system for artifacts and especially talent priority are not really reliable, in some cases even far from being reliable.
FAQs and Misconceptions
Q: Why do I need to wait to farm artifacts until AR 45? A: At AR 45 you unlock the highest artifact domain difficulty which guarantees at least 1 5* artifact per 20 resin. 4* artifacts are easily replaceable and AR 40 domain does not guarantee at least 1 5* artifact.
Q: I am capped at AR 25 / 35 / 45 / 50 and cannot progress further despite having more AR exp than over the limit, how do I fix this? A: At AR 25 / 35/ 45/ 50 you need to complete your ascension quest to ascend your world level as well as breaking the cap on your AR. Don’t worry about your overcapped AR XP since it will add on to further ARs once the cap has been lifted after completing the ascension quest.
Q: When should I try to do the Spiral Abyss? A: You might want to consider doing abyss until Floor 3 Chamber 3 once your level is sufficient, though progressing further isn’t necessary until you’re at least mid game or late game. Floor 9-12 is designed for late game players, so don’t worry if you can’t beat those floors in early/mid game.
Q: Where should I wish as a new player? A: You can wish on the beginner banner with your free Acquaint fates since it guarantees you a Noelle to shield you as well as 4* characters, though she can underperform in late game content. Primogems should primarily be used in the Limited Character Banner, or you can also use it in the Weapon Banner; though it’s not advised to wish on the weapon banner as an F2P or low spender.
Q: Is it true that after getting 2 5* characters in standard banner, the next 5* will be a weapon, and vice versa? A: That is a myth. It’s been well known by many that there’s such a thing but there isn’t. The only hidden mechanism is that under 270 pulls (not 3 pity, 270 solid pulls) you will always get at least a 5* character and a 5* weapon regardless of the order.
Q: What does elemental mastery do? A: Elemental mastery (EM) increases reaction damage, with Crystallize being the exception (where EM strengthens the resulting shield). Reactions are often split into two categories; amplifying and transformative reactions. Amplifying reactions multiply the triggering attack by either 1.5x or 2x depending on the order of application, while transformative reactions do separate instance(s) of damage and heavily scale on elemental mastery and character level (as in the character that triggered the reaction).
Q: If I have more elemental mastery on X, does that mean when I trigger superconduct it will reduce the enemy’s physical resistance further than 40%? A: No. Considering the previous question, we can tell that superconduct falls into the ‘transformative reaction’ category - meaning elemental mastery only affects the small instance of cryo damage it does (which is considered insignificant as superconduct is primarily used for the resistance shred).
Q: I’ve completed floor 8 of the Spiral Abyss, but I haven’t gotten the 2400 primogems as advertised in the Events Tab. Is this a mistake? A: No. Although it may look like these are extra rewards you receive for completing floor 8, the rewards listed are just a summary of everything accumulated from floors 1-8 assuming you can obtain all abyssal stars.
Q: I’ve seen many people saying that Bennett’s 6th constellation is very bad and I should never ever activate it. Why so? A: His 6th constellation isn’t necessarily bad, but can make him less flexible in team compositions. Bennett’s c6 mainly ruins Keqing comps but can actually be beneficial for pyro melee comps. If you plan to run Keqing comps in the near future, or want to stay very safe, then you can leave the constellation unactivated, though you will have to deal with a permanent red exclamation mark on your screen.
