Team Building Basics

When building your first teams, it is recommended to focus most of the attention into a single character that can deal significant damage, referred to as a Main DPS. Other members in the team can include a variety of helper roles such as Sub DPS, Off Field DPS, Supports, etc. For example, we’ll use a Hu Tao team, a pyro DPS team. This team is based around using Hu Tao as a Main DPS to execute vaporize reactions for increased damage. Note that while Melt reactions can do more damage in a single hit, reverse vaporize (when Pyro attacks a hydro afflicted enemy) is much more consistent and repeatable, leading to causing significantly more damage over time. This team normally includes a hydro applicator, specifically Xingqiu, who acts as a Sub DPS contributing his own personal damage while enabling Hu Tao to vaporize reliably. The rest of the units can vary based on availability; for example: 2 geo characters to activate geo resonance which increases shield strength and also increases your damage while shielded. Every Main DPS has different ways to deal damage, so the rest of the team can vary wildly. Does your main DPS do a lot of physical damage? Then you’ll want to be able to activate the superconduct reaction. Superconduct would need one or two characters on your team to apply cryo and electro consistently. Does the team need healing? If yes, then you need someone who can heal, like Diona or Bennett. Team members may even be capable of fulfilling multiple roles, try to achieve a balance between damage dealing, survivability, and utility in your team.
