Terminology
Combat Terminology
AoE (Area of Effect) - When an attack or ability can hit multiple enemies.
Battery - Character that is able to refill the bursts of teammates via particle generation.
Burst Support - Character that focuses on using Elemental Burst to deal damage.
Buffer - Character that focuses on buffing the teamâs damage.
Damage Per Screenshot - Terms used to explain the highest damage your character can deal, usually means stacking up damage increasing stats and not worrying about crit rate at all.
DPS (Damage per Second) - Terms used to explain highest average damage your character can deal, this includes any non damage increasing stats that is still beneficial (e.g. ER for burst-dependent characters) while also having balanced crit (1:2 ratio, e.g. 60:120 crit ratio).
Enabler - Role given to a character whose role is to provide elemental application to allow the main DPS to make reactions to further increase their damage (e.g. Xingqiu which is an enabler for pyro DPSes to vaporize consistently).
ER (Energy Recharge) - A multiplier for how much energy a character receives (note: not produce, but receive).
EM (Elemental Mastery) - A multiplier to increase reaction damage as well as improving crystallize shieldâs strength.
Field Time - Time it takes for the specific character to be on field. High field time means the character needs to be on field most of the time.
Forward Reactions - Amplifying reactions that gives 2x multiplier, which is pyro on cryo for melt and hydro on pyro for vaporize.
Healer/Shielder - Character whose purpose is to provide sustainability for the team with their shielding and healing capabilities.
Hyper Carry - Term given to a main DPS that can still work well even with supports and sub DPSes that arenât invested that much. They also tend to take up a large portion of field time and generally require good investment.
I - Frames (Invincibility/Invulnerability Frames) - A way to dodge attacks, by dashing or using a burst or certain skills the moment an attack is made to not take damage.
Main DPS - Used to describe the character being focused as the main source of damage in the team.
Nuke - Used to describe a method to or a role for a character who deals 1 instance of massive damage.
Off-Field Support - Characters that are used for Elemental Skills or Bursts that persist on the field after being switched out.
On-Field - Terms to describe a character being active on the field.
Quick Swap - Terms to describe a characterâs role that is usually casting their skill and/or burst then quickly swapping to another character
Reverse Reactions - Weaker version of amplifying reactions, though they can be better than forward reactions depending on the condition; has a 1.5x multiplier. Reverse reactions are: cryo on pyro and pyro on hydro.
Rotation - The order of your team, who to use first and what they will do. In other words, chain combo between all of your party members.
Sub-DPS - Characters that can contribute significant damage to the team but may not be the main priority in the team.
Support - Refers to characters that provide buffs, shields, or healing to the team, normally disregarding their own damage capabilities.
